Wrap Up from Austin LabVIEW User Group Meeting - November 2012

Central Texas LabVIEW User Group Meeting – November, 2012

Date:  11/28/2012

Location:  National Instruments

Time:  11:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m.

Meeting Summary:

The 5 W’s and H of the Queued Message Handler – Charles Chickering

Charles Chickering gave an overview of the Queued Message Handler Template provided in LabVIEW 2012, including highlighting some of the important features and underlying technologies.  Charles has posted his presentation as a document in this community group.

Tips and Tricks to Speed LabVIEW Development – Darren Nattinger

Darren Nattinger discussed and demonstrated his most current techniques for speeding up your LabVIEW development.  Surprisingly, there was a strong dose of “quick-drop.”  I’ve attached his presentation material in the documents section of this community group

A special Thank You to both Darren and Charles for presenting.

Next Meeting Topics:

The schedule for next year is still being finalized.  The appropriate next date would be in the February timeframe.  However, this also traditionally close to when we would host a LabVIEW Developer Day.  So, please stay tuned, and watch for event notices.

When the next meeting happens, the currently proposed topics include:

  • Emergency Stop – Charles Chickering will describe how to best incorporate graceful ways to exit LabVIEW applications.  This appears to be a common first task that he finds useful to implement, when he inherits code.
  • Debugging Techniques/Custom Probes – Eric Behrs shares general debugging techniques in LabVIEW.  These can be helpful for working with your own code, or especially if you inherit someone else’s code.  He may also emphasize good documentation and development practices so you can help anyone who may later inherit your code.

These topics may change, based on presenter’s availability.

As always, if you have an idea/concept that you think the group would enjoy, submit those ideas in the discussion thread as well.  It only needs to be 20-30 minutes, and we’re a friendly group.

Thanks to everyone who could make it and we’re looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Travis
