Hello,
I am trying to connect NI GPIB-USB-HS+ controller with Agilent E5810A GPIB/LAN Gateway for a communication between a Pick&Place handler and an IC tester.
If I connect each of the adapters to a device such as Tektronix O-scope, I can see no problem to identify the device, however, when both adapters are connected to eachother, there is no communication.
What could be the problem?
Thanks!
Dror

Hi Dror,
I'm not familiar with the Agilent Device, but there could be a number of causes of this behavior. The one I currently suspect is both interfaces are attempting to act as the System Controller for your GPIB Bus, which would cause incorrect communication.

How are all of your devices connected? And is the Agilent E5810A acting simply to pass commands and responses to and from the LAN connection, or are both the GPIB-USB-HS+ and the E5810A needing to act as controllers for your GPIB Bus? Some more details about your connections would definitely help with understanding the problem!

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for your reply.
One device should be a "Slave" device and the other one should be the controller.
I tried to configure the NI MAX as described in the attached link, but still with no success.
I wish I could provide more technical details in terms of GPIB commands, or configuration but I'm not very familiar with that. I understand that the communication should be very simple. Not a lot of data should run on the bus, but we are not there yet. we are stuck at the communication establishment phase.
One device runs Linux OS and is connected via LAN to GIPB with the Agilent E5810A gateway.
The other device runs Windows OS and is connected via USB to GPIB with NI GPIB-USB-HS+ adapter.
Today, after talking to a very nice NI support engineer from Israel, I installed Agilent VISA together with the NI Visa. I'm not sure if there should be NI and Agilent Visa on the other device as well.
Your support is much appreciated!

Hi Dror,
If you are working with a support engineer already, I would focus on the troubleshooting they provide. If we are both providing steps for you, some could conflict in terms of what we would learn from them. Since you have had direct contact with them, I would highly recommend continuing to work with the NI Israel engineer if possible!
