10Hz serial communication blocks every 2s

communication with my instrument at 10 Hz blocks every 20s in the mean.

How long does it block, and what OS are you running on?

The communication with my instrument does not necessarally block, but I do get 2-4 wrong answers. If I get 4 wrong ones I do reset my serial port to reestablish communication. So, I don't really know if it is my instrument that doesn't support 10Hz or if it is Windows 98...
