Can't communicate with instruments using Lab-view drivers combined with Agilent 82357A GPIB/USB interface

Hi

I am having a dreadful time trying to set-up communications via an Agilent 82357A USB/GPIB interface.

I have loaded the Agilent Automation ready CD as specified by the vendor and within the communication tree I can see the instruments are set-up and have been given GPIB addresses.  However I cannot communicate with the instruments via Lab-view using the Lab-VIEW drivers nor have the instruments been detected in NI Measurement and Automation Explorer.

This puzzles me as NI VISA is loaded on the PC and up to date.  Am I missing something?

Hope someone can help.

Many Thanks

Ashley

I suspect this is an age old problem.  I seem to recall seeing a similar message up on this board a few months ago.

Check out: http://forums.lavausergroup.org/lofiversion/index.php/t357.html

Quite rightly on that link it states why use an Agilent USB/GPIB interface with NI-Lab-VIEW unless you want to make life difficult for yourself!

I have given up and ordered an NI-GPIB/USB2 interface.  Not suprisingly I am not too happy with Agilent right now! (Not for the first time either!)

Regards

Ashley

Hi all,

I too am having a problem with the Agilent 82357A.

I have read many posts and, based upon my reading, I have completed the following steps:

Installed most recent NI-VISA (ver. 3.4.1)

Installed most recent Agilent I/O Libraries Suite (ver. 14.1.8x)

a) Chose to install Agilent VISA as secondary VISA library.

b) Confirmed that USB/GPIB interface is operable in "Agilent Connection Expert"

(attached screenshot shows configuration properties)

Opened MAX (ver. 4.00)

tools -> NI-VISA -> visa options -> general settings -> passports -> checked NiVisa tulip.dll checkbox

Saved settings

Restarted MAX

As shown in the second screenshot, the 82357A is not listed in "My System" -> Devices and Interfaces

Am I supposed to "Create New" interface?

If so, how do the 488/VXI settings in the "Create New..." wizard correspond to the configuration settings listed in the Agilent Connections Expert program?

Screenshots for both are attached.

Thank you for any insight you may offer!

Cheers,

Victor
