Cannot find EthernetConf utility in Tru64

We have bought and installed the GPIB drivers for the GPIB-ENET/100 device on a Tru64 UNIX machine. According to the manual, we should be able to configure the TCP/IP properties using a utility callled EthernetConfig. This does not exist on the machine.

Where can we obtain EthernetConfig for Tru64 UNIX?

Hi,
You can download the EtherntConfig and the FW update software from the driver page located at http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/7a7a9cf4223a38ec862569f20058acb9?opendocument.

Hope this helps out!

Thanks, I downloaded it and am having some trouble. I have tried it on Tru64 4.0f with mixed results. It seems to find a device if it has an IP address, but not to configure one. I have the package GPIBEN100 installed. Should I be using a later version of the driver? I think we have a GPIB140 that is not loaded. Is that compatable with 4.0f?

Hi,

How does the box get an IP if the utility does not work? If you are on a network that uses DHCP, it is easiest to let the box get an IP rather than static'ly assign one. Are any of the status LEDs flashing or are they all solid?

We have been addressing the boxes using the Windows based utility. This is adequate for our in-house use, but our product runs on Tru64 and we cannot guarantee availability of Windows for the setup. On macgines with multiple devices, DHCP is not adequate for our use because our configuration files need to know which device has what address at all times.

THe latest driver doesn't seem to make a difference as to the outcome of running the program. We still get an 'out of memory' error. The machine has 1GB RAM and 2 GB swap. Thta certainly should be adequate for EthnetConfig to run. IS there a way we could get access to the source code to try to fix the prolem ourselves? We would be glad to share back our solution.

Hi,

Ahh! I didn't realize that the problem is an "out of memory" message. This problem is usually returned when the utility does not find a device on the subnet. It is a bug, but the utility should still work if a device is found on the subnet. You can safely ignore the error message. Are the devices on the same subnet as the server?

They are on the same network. They cannot be on the same subnet until they get their IP address. The address we would assign would be in the same subnet. If the devices already have an address, we seem to be able to see them. I need to configure an address.

Thinking about it, I may be able to set a DHCP address and then use that to reconfigure an address, but the utility is still broken. If it is supposed to be used to set addresses, it needs to be able to find the devices that don't yet have an address.

After the out of memory error, the utility exits and I get a command prompt back. No other messages appear, and nothing is seen in any error logs.
