Error installing NI-488.2 GPIB-USB controller on Ubuntu 10.10

Hi Everyone,

                  I am trying to install a Keithley USB GPIB controller (i.e. KUSB-488A on Ubuntu 10.10). Will
the NI-488 drivers also work for the Keithley controller? If yes, I have
attempted to install these drivers (nikal 1.10 and NI-488.2-beta-2.5) following the documentation from this link:

but "make install" fails with the following error:

What do you suggest?

Hi Syd007,

Unfortunately, the Ubuntu OS is not one of the Linux Distributions that we support, so there might be some compatibility issues that we might not be able to overcome. Can you try to test this on an Ubuntu 8.04 machine to have at least the same OS as the example you are trying to follow?

As a side note, I notice that you get the error when the NI-KAL is trying to update. In the 488.2 readme there is a FAQ (on Q1 specifically) that you would want to update the updateNIdrivers utility as a root (located in /usr/local/bin). On the tutorial you are following I can see that this is being done. Are you having any errors on the previous steps of this tutorial? Are you getting an error when you try the “# ./updateNIDrivers” command?

The NI-488.2 driver will not function with Keithly GPIB interfaces, regardless of the distribution.
