I also recently encountered very similar errors on several of my machines when shutting down. These machines are also cloned duplicates of PCs with identical hardware. I wonder if the cloning operation is messing something up?
For reference, I have one NI PCI-8512/3 card (XNET CAN) and one NI PCI-8430/4 card (4port RS-232) installed in each machine.

I appear to have a solution that has worked for ~20 bootup and shutdowns. I uninstalled the NI suite of software, inclusing VISA Shared that I had installed. Then I reinstalled the drivers from the CDs that I had (NI-488.2 was 2.73 on my CDs instead of the 2.8.1 that was installed). I also realized that I had done some development work on an Agilent L4440 switch. I had installed the Agilent 15.5 software suite. I uninstalled this as well before I reinstalled the NI 2.7.3 software. Hope this helps...

Hi,
I have the same issue with lktsrv.exe . This is potentially an issue, as it looks like my shutdown takes longer in this case. I want shutdown to not be delayed, as my system will sometime do an auto-shutdown when battery level is criticaly low.
LV 2011 application
LV 2011 runtime engine
VISA 4.1.1 for communication with a few serial devices.

Hey BSI,
Are you using Lookout, or just doing serial communication? Do you have a screenshot of the error that you could post? Is it only the lktsrv.exe error that you're experiencing?

I didn't see that this issue was ever resolved? I'm now having this issue as well. It just started up here in the past few days.
Seems like right after I did recommend updates from NI Update service.

I am using serial comm. And usb communication with third party instrument. Still happens once in a while. Sorry Courtney I had missed your response to the thread.

This shutdown error has been linked to upgrade/install faults. The device drivers may need to be reinstalled onto the erroring machine.

Thx. Do you mean re-installing the NI device drivers, such as VISA in my case, LabVIEW run time etc ?

Yes that is correct. In general, when installing updates to any IDE the device drivers should be updated as well. Usually you will be prompted to do this but you need to have the original install disc or install directory. You can choose to skip this step but it can have adverse effects.
