I've downloaded the Fluke 884X driver set and installed. The 8845A is connected to an internal LAN network. Manually set the IP Address, Submask on the instrument. Used the Measurement & Automation Explorer to discover the device. The auto discovery didn't work, but, manual entry of raw socket did. Was able to validate the device connection.
However, when I setup a simple VI -- say to run, well, anything -- initialize, system, etc., seems like I get a timeout error. (I'm tired of sitting in the corner.) Anyway, has anyone tried the LAN connection? Since I'm new to LabView, perhaps I've missed something?
Thanks in advance.

Check the Firewall software and Anti-virus program settings.

That's not the issue.
1.) I can ping the Fluke.
2.) The Measurement & Automation Explorer can validate
3.) I have an Agilent supply on the network that responds as expected.

Hello,
Do you know if the IT guys are using NAT, network address translation as a security resource?
If this is the case that might be the problem, you see the device through it's original IP but it replies back through translate Ip.
It happens with the cRIOS and some CDAQ chassis.

Luis A.

I don't think the 8845/8846 DMMs are VXI-11 compliant, while the Agilent instrument is compliant, you might check if fluke has a firmware update.

Thanks jjp377 and LuisAE...
I'll check with our IT guys, but I'm leaning toward jjp377's assessment. But, I'll investigate both.
I'll repost when I have more info.
Thanks again.

I checked with Fluke and there is no firmware update. The suggested route was to go thru Telnet. I will update the above response to indicate answer is solution.

hi
how did you manage your setup to run?
i got a 8845a and 8846a.
8845a is validated successfully by MAX but in signal express i get a timeout error.
8846a is not validated successfully by MAX.
i setup both as raw instruments.
or is this a limitation to signal express trial version?
greets

That's as far as I could get using MAX, validation, and that was only after manual setup and defining the port. Beyond that, the drivers do not communicate with the 8845A via LAN.
Fluke recommends using Telnet as the interface; I haven't tried that yet. Fluke doesn't support LabView interface for this instrument. Too bad, it would be nice to grab the built-in statistics and trends, in addition to the basic measurements.

thank you, but that sounds not so good 🙂
in addition to this i am having problems getting my frequency generator to work...
and all this problems while testing in order to figure out if we will buy labview or not. and by now it seems that i will not suppose to buy because we have to rebuy all our equips!? 😞
i am quite dissapointed until now 🙂
