¿Free software to record instrument trace (HP Scalar Network Analyzer)?

We are about to purchase an NI GPIB to USB adapter to record in a PC the trace of an HP Scalar Network Analyzer (instead of using the heavy and 10 years old paper plotter) and to get rid of the felt pens that always have dry ink.

Nowadays, we are short of investment resources and can't spend in software.

We do not plan to configure the instruments trough the PC. We just need to retrieve the trace to a Jpg , PDF or similar file.

Can you recommend us a free of charge piece of software that allows us to do so?

Otherwise the purchase of the converter will have to be postponed.

Hola Martín,

el control de un instrumento por GPIB es algo que se hace muy a menudo con el software de National Instruments. Fundamentalmente los programas que se emplean son LabVIEW y LabWindows/CVI. El instrumento se puede programar por comandos o utilizando una librería específica creada por el fabricante que se instala en LabVIEW o CVI y se llama Instrument Driver. Este driver de instrumento concreto hace muchísimo más fácil y rápida la programación. Como no sé qué modelo concreto tienes, te pongo un ejemplo de Inst. Driver para HP:

En cuanto al software de aplicación (LabVIEW, CVI,...) mucho que temo que no es gratuito. No obstante existen muchas distribuciones. Por ejemplo, LabVIEW existe en versión Professional, Full, Base, Student,... con precios y funcionalidades muy diferentes. Mi consejo es que llames a National y veas que opciones tienes en cuanto a precio y prestaciones (91 640 00 85).
