GPIB-ENET error code 21

Solved!
Go to solution
Hello,
I recently acquired a used GPIB-ENET pn:181950-01 Rev C.3, sn:01124.
When powered up it - connected to a lan, with all the dip switches off and with a RARP server listening - it doesnt try to handshake with the rarpd, but after a couple of seconds shows 3long + 2short flashes(a 21 error code I presume).
Please notice that the same set up is succesfully used with a different - and working - GPIB-ENET device.
Could you please let me know the meaning of the error code - which is not explained in literature, or send me a reference manual?
I would much appreciate any help you could give me.
With regards,
Andrea de Quagliatti.

Hi Andrea!

The problem you are having might be solve if you update the firmware of your GPIB-ENET. To do that, depending on your OS, consult the User Manual that came with your GPIB-ENET.

If this doesnt solve the issue, most likely your GPIB-ENET needs to be repair.

Hope this helps, have a pretty day!

Thank you Oswald!

yes you are right, in fact I also received a personal reply - from very kind Serena Monti (NI Italy), which - as a reference - I can recap as follows:

1) yes 3long+2short flashes belongs to error 21.

2) GPIB-ENET at bootstrap makes the CRC of the 2 firmware flashes - 2 because of the 16 bit bus - and rises error 21 if results aren't as expected.

3) Therefore, to solve this a Flash update is required.

4) to make a Flash update dip switch bit 7 must be set to ON - and all the rest is OFF, this make the GPIB-ENET skip the self-test and wait for firmware reprogramming.

5) then follow the User Guide.

And it worked!

I can add that when dip switch bit 7 is ON (and all the rest is OFF), the device is also sending a RARP request, and therefore if you have a RARP server(as this one: http://www.panix.com/~perin/rarpd.zip) you can assign a new IP to your GPIB-ENET.

Cheers!

Andrea.
