GPIB Recognized but not Usable

I have had this problem on multiple computers with various types of NI GPIB Controllers (PCI-GPIB+ and USB-GPIB-A and B), but have just side-stepped it in the past. The devices are recognized, but are not usable by anyone but the users with Administrative rights (Win2000 and WinXP). In the past we just granted everyone in our lab local administrator rights on those computers, but we would like a better solution, and I can't imagine that our solution is the intended operating procedure.

If anybody has insight on this topic, I would appreciate it.

Hi,

What driver version are you using?. I found this knowledge base article that describes this situation for NI-488.2 1.6:

http://pong.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/862567530005F09F862568AA0075D10E?OpenDocument

I'm using windows 2000 with NI-488.2 2.0. I'm able to open MAX and use the GPIB interfaces when logged with miminal privileges. In thius situation I cannot change the settings of the GPIB interface.

The following link has information on the driver version for supported OS and Hardware combination:

Sherman,

One other thing is that the PCI-GPIB+ is not supported under NI-488.2 version 2.0. However, we are currently working on the next version that will. That way, if you need to use the GPIB-USB-A, GPIB-USB-B, and the PCI-GPIB+ all together on one system, you will be able to with the next version.

If you are interested in participating in the beta program to get a head start on the next version and validate the driver with your application and tests, go to http://www.ni.com/ask, choose E-mail NI, and state that you want to be on the beta list. Please provide your contact name, company, mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number. We will contact you when the beta program begins.

Regards,
