GPIB Support for Linux Kernel 2.6.X (Fedora 2)

I'm attempting to port some legacy code from Solaris to Linux on a PC. I installed Fedora Core 2 which is based on the new Linux 2.6.x kernel. However, when I attempted to install the NI GPIB Driver software it said that only 2.0.x, 2.2.x and 2.4.x are supported.

Should I move back to Fedora Core 1 which is based on 2.4.x or would it be relatively painless to get 2.6.x support for GPIB?

Thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for contacting National Instruments.

Currently, we only have support for the 2.6.x kernal of linux for the GPIB-ENET/100. More information about that driver can be found at the following site.

http://www.ni.com/linux/ni488dl.htm

We have been considering adding this kernal support for some of our other GPIB boards so I would recommend submitting a product suggestion so that we can track all the requests for this. You may submit a product suggestion at the following site.

Hope this helps!

The easiest thing would be to format and use FC1. If you really want to
use kernel 2.6.x, then look to the Linux-GPIB project
(linux-gpib.sourceforge.net) maintained by Frank Hess.

I've only used their drivers with 2.4.x kernels. The CVS log shows that
Frank released version 3.2.00 "Port to 2.6.xx Linux kernels" about a day
ago.

If it works for you, write back to let others know. Good luck!
