Hi Alex,
There are documented problems with the USB-B and Windows 98, but you seem to be doing the correct thing. If possible, is there another computer with a newer operating system on it that you can try the USB-B on? If it works, we will know if the device is working properly and can go from there. For Windows 98 2nd edition, you have the correct driver version, but you may want to uninstall the driver and then reinstall it rather than just reinstalling the driver. You may even want to redownload the driver from our drivers and updates page to make sure the download or CD file isn't corrupt for some reason. Also, be sure to reboot the computer after installing the drivers and make sure you do not plug in the USB-B until after you have installed the drivers and rebooted the machine. It sounds like the the drivers are not being found and associated when you plug the device in. When the USB-B is plugged in, do you see any GPIB or unknown device in the device manager in Windows? If so, try right clicking on the device and selecting to update the driver. Point the update wizard to the 488.2 driver folder and see if it fixes the problem.
Please try these and let me know what you find out. Good luck and have a great day!

Chris,
Thanks for the reply. I finally got it to work. I guess I just have to be more patient. I reinstalled the driver and plugged the USB cable. The same window appeared. Previously I waited about a minute before I unplugged the USB. I assumed that since the computer freezes completely for that long there is something wrong. This time I left it like that over my lunch break. When I came back it was fine.
Thanks,
Alex
