GPIB interface failed during NI-488.2 Troubleshooting wizard.

My GPIB-ENET/100 board seems to be properly installed, but the card fails the GPIB Interfaces Sequentially Verified test in the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard.  I have followed the Wizard's help, verifying the IP Address.  I have pinged the board without success.  The power/ready light is a steady yellow light and the Link 10/100 light is a steady green.  I am using a crossover ethernet cable and my instrument is not connected to the board.

Howdy Tom,

The cause of your error could be that the instrument is not connected to the device.  Try following the steps outlined in the KnowledgeBase article Setting Up the GPIB-ENET/100.  Post back if that still doesn't work for you and we can look into other solutions.
Sincerely,

Chris,

I have tried with and without the instrument being connected to the board.  I followed the instructions in the link you supplied.  The board appears under the Devices and Interfaces node.  When I ask it to scan, it gives the same error: The GPIB0 interface has been incorrectly configured.  I run the Troubleshooting Wizard as stated and still no success.  I have also tried different cables.

Tom,

I've been looking in the issue a little further and I've found a previous thread that deals with what seems like exactly the same problem.  Check it out and let me know if you are still not able to pass the test after following those troubleshooting tests. Also, post back if you have any questions on how to perform those tests and I'll be happy to clarify.  Good luck!

Chris,

Checked the thread you mentioned.  The GPIB-ENET/100 is not a PCI card but a board in a stand alone box.  My computer is a stand alone (not connected to any network) and the only thing connected to it is the GPIB-ENET/100 box.  The installation software found the IP address of the box without a problem so I am assuming the IP address is correct.  Is there any way to independently verify this?

Thank you.

Tom,

There is definitely a way to verify if you have the correct IP address.  Go to Start Menu » Run and type in cmd.  This should pull up a black terminal window.  From there, type in ping <IP address of your ENET>.  For example, if your ENET is at 10.0.0.1, the command would be ping 10.0.0.1.  This command will 4 test packets to your ENET device to make sure that it exists on your internet.

As a separate test, I'd like you upload an NI-SPY capture when you try to communicate with your ENET.  This will give us a better understanding of exactly what error is occurring and hopefully lead to a successful solution.

Chris,

Followed your link and used NI Spy.  I have enclosed the capture file.  As I mentioned earlier, pinging the box is unsuccessful.

Tom,

If you are unable to successfully ping the device, there is no chance that the driver could establish a connection to the GPIB-ENET.  This would be most likely caused by a faulty ENET or a broken network.  I apologize for not catching that earlier in the discussion.  Please make sure your IP address is set as static for both your PC and ENET.  You also might have a faulty cable, so I would try connecting to the ENET through a known working router.

Chris,

As far as I can tell my IP Address is static.  I have tried different cables.  The one I am using now is a known good crossover (null modem) cable.  Any other suggestions?

Tom,

It seems like we've been down almost every path, and at this point I'm thinking your ENET might just be broken.  Do you have another one you could use in this system to test basic functionality?  I'll keep looking on my end over here but I expect this is the result of a faulty device.
