Gateway locks on install of PCI-GPIB

I am removing a PCI-GPIB card from a Dell 133Mhz where the card is recognized and installing in a Gateway GP7-800Mhz PIII. As soon as the card is installed the PC hangs on Boot after the the Hard Drive and CD is recognized. No error messages. I have tried in different slots expansion slots and still no go.

You might want to install the NI-488 software first.

1. Can you confirm you have the latest BIOS from Gateway?

2. On the PCI-GPIB there should be a label that starts with either 183617 or 188513. Can you reply with the rest of what is printed on the label?

3. Can you try booting the system with no other PCI cards installed?

I can't guarantee it will solve your problem but I think you should first work on getting the BIOS upgraded. Are there any instructions from Gateway for upgrading the BIOS?

Are there instructions with the updated BIOS that tell you what to do with the BIOS file you updated?

But it does need to be a System Disk so that the PC can boot from it. With my Dell PC, the BIOS update came as an EXE file. When I ran the file, it took me step-by-step to create a bootable BIOS update disk.
