HP 4194A Data transfer

Hi,

Can someone help me to obtain data from HP 4194. I have gone through some of the questions posted earlier and I have down load the examples were given but still couldnt get it work.

What I am measureing is the Capacitance change with the bias sweep for my devices. The graph plots it self and I just require to take the data points to my computer. The example was given here has different funtion ie frequency sweep and once it recognise  I cant  control  the functions from the unit.

Can someone kindly help me to figure it out (I am not an expert in Labview)

Hi Nilushan

Your HP 4194A should work fine with lab view. first thing to check is that you have the correct drivers installed. You need a VISA driver and then the instrument should be plug and play. The link for these with further information is shown below (any driver after 1.2 will be fine)

Once you have confirmed you have these you will need to look in MAX and your instrument should be visable in the tree diagram on the left side of the screen under: devices and interfaces >> serial and parallel >> "COM1".

Once you have confirmed you can see this the in labVIEW you should be able to use the VISA and/or GPIB VIs in the instrument I/O tab of you labVIEW toolbox.

The above settings will confirm the setup of your instrument but I have not given details on the specifics of your program.

If you would like further advice on either configuration of programming I would be most willing to advise.

Which version on LabVIEW are you using and in what form do you need your results?

Thank you for helping me out here. I have installed it and the HP 4194 is detected from my PC.

I am using Labview 8.2 (the latest version) Please let me know what I should do.

download the driver for your HP as pointed to in the mail before your question.
And try the example.

Without knowing the detail and being familiar with the hardware setup you have it is hard for me to advise you on the structure of your program. I would recomend looking at the examples within labview under help>>find examples alternativly there are some great tutorials on http://zone.ni.com/devzone/fn/ covering most areas of programming and data input.

I'm sorry i cant help you more specificaly but if you have any further troubles in developing your code I would be pleased to advise. If you can get to the stage when you have a program then lends its-self to more specific questions then I will try my best to give answers.
