Sorry for the delay.

You were right: When the connections are fixed in the "false" case

and the initialization done in the "true" case - this solution works nicely! 

Do you understand, why the shift register doesnt have to be manually initialized _before_

running the while loop? I would have expected this to be necessary..

As far as I understand, the initialization is done with the first run of the while loop.
