You can't do a loopback at the GPIB end so I have no idea what you are trying. Where are these 'data' pins. At any point, have you had an actual GPIB instrument connected?

yes, i connected prologix GPIB-USB controller. I used pin 1 and pin 13 for loop communication.

That's not an instrument - it's the controller. It is designed to have an instrument connected to. If you don't connect an instrument, its a big waste of time and money. As I said, you can't do a loopback. Connecting DIO1 and DIO5 is just silly. You might want to find a tutorial onGPIB to understand why.

i am sorry Dennis, my instrument was HP 4142B analyzer
so how can i know wheather the instrument is communicating.
Thanks Dennis

Send a valid query. Did you confirm in the manual that *IDN? is supported?

Hi Dennis.
My exact problem is...
I'm trying to create a digital interface in LabVIEW with the HP 4142B
Logic Analyzer, but I really don't know, how to I get this Analyzer
talking to LabVIEW! Well, it uses GPIB, so the connection isn't the
problem at all, but I need to enter instructions which are being sent
to the Analyzer, so Lab VIEW knows, which type of protocol it uses.
Do you know how to realize this? I can't even find some docs on
the net according to the HP 4142B...!?

I have no idea why you can't find the documentation. Go to www.agilent.com and do a search for 4142B. You are quickly given this. That says that the 4142B is a DC source/monitor and not a logic analyzer so perhaps that is part of your problem?

ya it's correct, but we are not able to communicate with the instrument.

we installed the drivers of the gpib and we are communicating with that. We are not able to communicate with the instrument. we trying to find how to command from labview for the instrument.

Is the instrument really a DC Source or logic analyzer. And what GPIB drivers are you talking about? You don't have a controller that requires any sort of GPIB driver. Exactly what program (besides LabVIEW) are you trying to communicate to the instrument.
Please try to provide details when you post a question. This back and forth posting to get vital information from you is getting a bit frustrating.
