Heidenhain ND281 B

I need to read data from a serial port connected to a Heidenhain ND281B  display.  Has anyone tried to do this with this particular model?

thanks

Hey Pjccat,

I was just going to tell you, a great place to get started is an example program called "Basic Serial Read and Write". When you open labVIEW, just go to Help->Find Examples->Search(Tab)->Type in "Serial". And you should see the VI.

If you have the correct commands which you can find in the manual that comes with the instrument, you should be able to start sending commands back and forth. From there, all you need to do is start expanding from this VI.

Can you let me know if this helps?

Regards,

Nick D.

Hi Pjccat,

Were you able to look over the example programs? Did they help, or do you have anymore questions? Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Hi Jmarcusse,

There are many serial examples that may prove useful for reading serial and writing excel files. The "Basic Serial Read and Write" example mentioned above should get you communicating with your device. The "Write to Spreadsheet" VI will save any data you want to a spreadsheet and if you use the xls file extension on the spreadsheet you create, Excel will be able to open it.. Let me know if you have any questions after looking over those examples.
