How can I capture data and graphs from Marconi 6200 frequency analyser, using LabView and GPIB-HS 488.2 ?

Hi every body,

I need to capture Data, and Graphs form (Marconi 6200 frequency analyser), using LabView, and via GPIB-HS 488.2 .

I have installed all the required hardware and software, according to the NI-website recommendation. Unfortunately I haven’t found either a tutorial for this type of control system to guide me or examples to test the system with, at least. Smiley Sad

Can someone, PLEASE, help me or give me some examples or tutorial??

Thank you

Hi,

For this you would need the user manual to tell you the GPIB information, if you don't have one you could try e-bay or perhaps specialised user forums.

All the best,

Thanks Rob,

I have the GPIB manual, and I have installed the Instrument Driver( LabView installed (IRF 2026), automaticly). I need some examples of LabView, using GPIB-HS interface that help to capture data from the instrument. Could you please tell me which LabView Driver that will work out with Marconi(MTS) 6200??

Eng.Saam.

Are you talking about the driver at http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=9562? A certified driver will come with an example VI but this driver is not certified or supported by NI (as the download page mentions). It's just a wrapper around some calls to a dll. You might want to download the CVI driver and look at the C code used to create it. Other than experimenting with the functions, I don't know what else to recomend. If you get completely lost, you might have to write your own or use the Instrument I/O Assistant.

Thank you Dennis,

I want to tell you that  I'm new to labview, but I have followed the installation instructions that are shown in NI-labview software and website. Unfortunatly, installing the instrument driver was automatic step throgh LabView. Later, I found the installed driver is not for my instrumrnt (Marconi 6200 RFand MTS), and it is not abvalable in the NI-website.

My quastion know, is it possible to use VISA in the USP control system (PC,GPIB-hs 488.2, and Marconi 6200 MTS) with labp view 8.2??

regarding the use of Instrument I/O, I think it can't be used for none NI-Instrument??

With all the best

Yes, you should be able to use VISA to communicate to your instrument and the I/O Assistant is for any instrument connected via serial, GPIB, etc. The Instrument I/O Assistant is based on VISA.

I'm a little confused though, about you comment regarding the installation of the instrument driver. Instrument drivers are never installed automatically. The only drivers that get installed automatically are the hardware drivers such as NI-GPIB, NI-VISA, etc. To install an instrument driver, you would have had to initiate that yourself from the Tools>Instrumentation>Find Instrument Driver option.

Yes, I have intiated installation of the driver, but because I'm new to labview, and the name of marconi instrument had been changed to IRF, I have accepted the first choice(driver ), provided by labview. There is no driver for Marcoi 6200 MTS anyway.
