At one time for most scopes one channel, but also for most scopes all channels very fast after each other.
So it depends on how long your channel data is and how fast you want to transfer it to your pc.
The longer the trace the longer it takes.

Hi
I would call it selecting, not switching.
You can do a lot more with gpib, trigger, change all kinds of settings etc.

So all I have to do is find a way to program the GPIB to select which channel I want it to acquire data from an then select another channel and retain data from it, right.

What you have to do is read the manual for the instrument to determine the correct command to send to the scope and then do a read.

You should first look at the Instrument Driver Network to see if a driver exists for your scope. If you can find one there or from the vendor, it will save you a great deal of time.
