How to install NI-Device Plus to target

How do I install the NI-Device Plus plug-ins on my Windows XP based target machine? I cannot find any documentation telling me what are the distributable modules and how to install them (or do I have to use the original setup from the development CD and install it on every target machine?).

Hi FreddyBZ,

NI-Device Plus is older software and due to its age documentation for it can be rather hard to find.  You can perform the full installation on your targets but there is a minimum set of dlls that need to be installed on the target machines for your application to run correctly.   At this time I have not been successful in finding the required dll list and would suggest performing a full install of the dlls to ensure your application works properly.

Thanks. It seems I'll have to monitor file and registry changes while installing the runtime files. 😞

Hi,

I checked into it and you will need to install NI-Device on each target machine for your application to work properly.  To assist with the instillation I have attached a knowledgebase article that explains how to create a script to help automate the instillation process.

Thanks Andy!

I may still look into monitoring file installations and registry modifications, to create a minimal set of updates for in the field field upgrades. But your info gives me a reasonable solution to fallback on.

For curiosity more than anything, what bus plugins are you using with NI-Device Plus?

I don't even know yet how the plug-ins and/or other software modules are organized (I'm just starting on this project). If by plug-ins you mean GPIB, ethernet, RS232, or USB, than I'm planning to use ethernet and GPIB for sure, and maybe also USB.

Yes. I was talking about GPIB, USB, and/or Ethernet. Thanks. I hope it all works out for you. Good luck!
