Thanks! I figured out the return characters. I was using \n. Using \r the Read Write works well.
On another note..
Has anyone used Harvard drivers with a (really) old version of LabView? I have LabView 7.1. The Harvard drivers on the website are for versions 8.0 and up. I have some old Harvard drivers, however I havent been able to get them to work. It appears they are having trouble with the DAQ interface (which is also ancient in my system). I get the error: "Enque Element in DAQ interface.vi" When I try to write simple code to through the PhD read set parameters.
I have a bunch of old software and equipment that I'm trying to get back up and running, but all the people that set up this system have left. Sorry- I don't know where I got the Harvard drivers that I have. Also, they are not in the inst.lib folder of LabView, so I think they are more like separate VIs than the plug and play that NI has now for the Harvard pumps.
Thanks for listening!

Why should yuo use daq. Use VISA that is available in 7 so don't bother the DAQ.
You did not by accident use the daq wizard is it?
the problem with visa: there is not a good wizard, there was an example but too many different instruments make that also too difficult for a beginner and too clumsy for a professional.
So try to redraw what you see in 8 or ask a "save for previous" on the website.
