Installing a NI AT-GPIB Card under Win98

I followed the procedure descriebed on NI web page (GPIB Installation Wizard):
- I downloaded atwin271.zip and I installed it
- I replaced the gpib-16.dll and gpib-32.dll files with those from the Compatibility Release.

When I tried to add new hardware (Control Panel) I got the error message:

"Setup cannot load the installer (GPIBI16.DLL) for the GPIB hardware being installed. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance."

The AT-GPIB board is only support in the Win32 environments by the thunking layer release. This allows for 32-bit calls into a 16-bit driver. This system is still limited in the fact that the interface will not show up in the device manager and is not addable through the New Hardware.

The second step to the GPIB Installation Wizard online is a link to http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/win95/at-gpib/default2.htm

Please make sure you add the board as outlined on this site and follow any of the troubleshooting tips provided to you at this link.

A better response to the original question is that you won't use the Add New Hardware Wizard in Windows to install your AT-GPIB board. This hardware is not supported by the native Win32 GPIB driver. As the original poster mentioned, the AT-GPIB board requires the Windows 3.1 version of the AT-GPIB driver and the Compatibility Release software on Windows 95. (This is covered in KnowledgeBase 157BSCL1.) After you install this software, you must use the GPIB icon in the Control Panel (Start >> Settings >> Control Panel) to install the hardware and configure it.

The link that Ryan provided in his response has changed. We created a general Hardware Installation Wizard (http://www.ni.com/support/install) that includes the content from the original GPIB an
d DAQ Installation Wizards. The AT-GPIB installation is covered in the new GPIB Configuration Wizard (http://www.ni.com/support/gpib). See the link for "AT-GPIB on Windows 95" on the GPIB Configuration Wizard page for assistance.

Note: The AT-GPIB board was replaced with the AT-GPIB/TNT board. Make sure you really have an AT-GPIB board before you go through all the trouble of installing the older GPIB driver, etc. The AT-GPIB/TNT board has a TNT4882 chip on it; the AT-GPIB does not.
