OK - this is probably a fairly simple issue, but it is causing some issues that I am not sure how to resolve. I am running LV 2013 on a 64-bit Windows 8 machine and I can not seem to get the computer to identify a USB-232 device from NI. I am running Serial 4.0, VISA 5.4. When I connect the USB-232 cable, a new entry in MAX under Devices and Interfaces called "NI USB Device Initialization". I have no idea what this is or if there is something I am supposed to do with this. Anybody have any thoughts. All would be welcome.
Thanks, Matt

Have you tried connected a serial device to the USB 232? Are you able to get any functionality? You've got the right drivers installed, so there's nothing strange there.

Thanks for the reply Nathan. Unfortunately, since the USB-232 is not showing up properly, there is no functionality regarding serial devices...

Does it appear as a com port in windows device manager? If not, then perhaps you should try a repair or reinstall of NI-Serial. If it does appear, you can try a terminal emulation program suchas hyperterminal, putty, etc.

Unfortunately, no. It is showing up under NI-Serial USB/Expresscard perf with the heading NI USB Device Initialization. If this sounds like Greek to you, forgive me... I have never had an issue like this before so I am not really sure what is going on....

As I said, I'd recomend a reinstall of NI-Serial. I think that is the actual driver that makes it appears as a com port in windows.

Reinstall seems to have fixed it. Thanks, Dennis.
