Measuring Capacitance and Continuity using Agilent 34410 non-instrument specific interfaces

Hello,

The Agilent 34410A can measure the capacitance with the interface "IAgilent34410Capacitance" and the continuity with the interface "IAgilent34410Continuity".

I am trying to use Class compliant interfaces or IVI Inherent interfaces (not Agilent interface dependent) for my solution.

Do you know if there are any Class compliant interfaces or IVI inherent interfaces that I could use to measure Capacitance and Continuity?

Continuity would be just a normal resistance measurement though you would be getting a numeric value back as opposed to a (I'm assuming) a true/false. The IVI DMM class does not have capacitance measurement type defined. The class definition can be viewed at http://www.ivifoundation.org/ and you can probably check meeting minutes to see if a capacitance measurement extension has been proposed.

Don't hold your breath. I've watched the IVI foundation since it's creation and have never felt that they moved very fast. It seemed to take forever to add the latest classes (spec analyzer, pwr meter, RF Sign Gen). If you have a list of DMMs that include a capitance measurement, you might see if they have a representative on the IVI Foundation. There's a member list at http://www.ivifoundation.org/Organization/MemberList.htm with email addresses. If the list of instruments is small, there may not be enough interest to add the measurement. If that's the case, you may have to use the instrument specific driver for capitance and the IVIDMM class for everything else.
