NI 488.2 language differences XP vs. win 98/95

Is there a difference in the language used to communicate with machines in driver software for windows xp pro and windows 98? The machine is running on old software, and the driver software is 2.7, an ibwrt error among others is recieved, and the *IDN? query isn't a recognized command. Would a switch in my OS and older driver software be the fix?

I don't believe there are any language differences. The *IDN? command has nothing to do with the GPIB driver anyway. It's an instrument specific command.

Hello WEF0909,

There have been several small changes to the language interface exported by the NI-488.2 driver.  However many changes were made in a way that older programs will still work with the new drivers.

Specifically what compiler are you using? 

Can you post a screen shot of the error you are experiencing?
