Need to control physical hot plate knob

Now I just need to build the contraption.

I'm thinking to get a couple of gears, and attach a tight-fitting removable sleeve to the hot plate knob, and I think I've got the idea for the mount design -- won't firm it 'til I've all the supplies in hand.

An electronics-minded classmate suggested the ~$10 DC "hobby motor" over the cheaper one, and I think I can pin it through parallel.

I know one power supply is 0- pos 6V only (for DC).   I'm going to check the other one today, and report back.

I've to come up with the thermistor.  I can use (don't know if I can have) a J-type thermocouple (but I gather that wouldn't work with the ring oscillator), or I have to build or buy a thermistor.  (My temp range is 25-100˚C.)  I found this design on Wikipedia, but don't understand their list of resistors.   It's probably easier to buy, if they're cheap, but I'm not sure which?  Also, I'm not sure how to wire it to the mic?
