Second Agilent 82357A card and VISA 4.5

Having upgraded my version of VISA from 4.4.1 to 4.5 the second Agilent 82357A (USB GPIB)card I have on the machine no longer finds instruments on the bus. The first card does and works normally, but not the second one shows nothing. Normally, I would access the functionality from the C# in the .NET environment, but MAX shows the same problems. SPY gives no indication of probelms

Hi,

It would be great if you could give me a little more information on your system so that I can help you troubleshoot this problem.  What operating system are you using?  If Windows, which service pack is installed?  What happens if you swap the cards over in the USB slots?

Am I correct in thinking that MAX can see both of the Agilent devices but you can only see the GPIB device on one of them?

You are correct in you assumption that MAX only shows devices that are connected to GPIB0, the second device shows as blank. I am also finding that GPIB0 is very unreliable, I have to unplug and replug the card about twice a day.

The PC is a Lenovo T61 with Windows XP professional Version 2002 with service pack 2.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me, I am still quite interested to know what happens when you swap over the USB ports that the devices are plugged into.  At the moment I think the best action to take is to uninstall your VISA and GPIB drivers then re install them.  It may be a corrupt installation of one of these drivers that is causing the problem you are seeing.
