Hi,
I would like to monitor and capture simple RS-232 data via a USB port. I'm running Windows Vista on a Laptop with only USB ports. I purchased an NI USB-Serial adaptor, have successfully installed the drivers and the NI Troubleshooting Wizard reports the device is working correctly on COM4. I had assumed that the CD with the USB-Serial cable would include an appropriate terminal software application to talk to the port. Is there any simple terminal software available that will allow me to communicate with the USB-Serial port *without* installing Labview and writing a corresponding VI to do the job? Something equivalent to the old Hyperterminal would be more than sufficient.
Regards,
John

Use Hyperterminal, TeraTerm, PuTTY, ProComm, or any other number of terminal emulation programs. Don't see the point in NI creating it's own terminal emulation software when so much already exists.

I could not get Hyperterminal to work: "Unable to open COM4. Please check your settings" - which is why I posted the question. However, TeraTerm (which I had not heard of before) worked straight away - no problems. Thanks for the tip.
