Sloratron 1260 to labview

I am trying to get the Solartron 1260 Impedance analyzer  to talk to my computer using LabView.
I downloaded the drivers from NI site but the sample Vi's inside also don't seem to be working.
When i try to 'scan for instruments' in the Measurement & Automation Explorer for GPIB connections there is a beep from the device  but the status is shown as not responding.
Does anybody know what specific settings you have to set the 1260  to make it communicate with LabView?
I am new at labview so any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

The instrument would need to be configured in MAX before using the driver.

As mentioned in this thread it may be a timing issue or the version of the GPIB driver.

What is the version of your GPIB driver?

thanks for the reply.
I tried finding the driver version by followin the instructions here : http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/at-gpib/quest1.htm
but i couldnt locate the 'diagnostics'  they have mentioned. Is there any other way i can find the driver version.
Also, I have a 4192a HP impedance analyzer which i am able to give commands to using the same GPIB connection.

Hi,

If you are able to use your HP 4192a through GPIB then it seems it would be a different issue.

You can also find the GPIB driver version by selecting My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager> National Instruments GPIB interface > PCI-GPIB > Properties > Driver > Driver Version

Were you able to configure the HP 4192 in MAX?

Hi

The driver version is 2.4.0.3500.

I have another thred going  going in the labview forum. http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=267423.

Maybe you can help me better if you look at that.

Thanks for the help

Abhishek

Hi,

As mentioned by Dennis the instrument needs to be detected by MAX before working with the code in LabVIEW.

If you have LV8.0 you can use the project-style driver, that one has the updated VISA open.

Also as mentioned by Dennis have you tried connecting only the Solartron 1260 to see if it is recognized by MAX?

HI
I have connected just one instrument at a time to the GPIB. It is showing two instruments when i connect Solartron erroneously for some reason. Also when i connect the HP Anlayzer it shows just one instrument .So yes, solartron is not being recognized by MAX.

Your Solartron is broken. It should never be detected as two different instruments. I think this is a problem for the vendor to solve.
