TCP Open Connection vs VISA

What are the (dis)advantages of using VISA's TCPIP::<ip>::<port>::SOCKET instead of "TCP Open Connection"?

Hi

VISA is a generic communication architecture in which tcp/ip is one implementation and gpib, serial, usb and in the future  maybe othersare also possible.

the tcp open connection is just that.
