That looked promising but for the ports that aren't working I get the error "There was an error renaming the COM port. The IOCTL call failed." and they don't change name.
I was able to change the com port numbers of the conflicting device in device manager. Two showed up as com ports, the last one was under modem. The USB-485 stayed at the same ports so that fixed the conflict and it is now working.
