USB-485 and Windows 10

Hi,

I have a USB-485 which I have use on a Windows 7 64-pc with no problem. But when trying to install it onto a Windows 10 pro pc then NI MAX indicates that windows has no driver for the device.

What could be the problem?

Try installing the latest version of NI-Serial on the Win10 machine.

NI-SERIAL 15.0 is NOT supported for Windows 10 (Only up to Windows 8.1 is supported)

Joe,

I beg to differ.  I'm running NI-Serial on Win10 and it works just fine.  Document at http://www.ni.com/white-paper/52818/en/ clearly states this as well.

Gary,

Suggest you open up Win10 device manager and verify that the NI driver has been loaded for the USB-485.  Should be NISerialU.sys

Wow, this is misleading...  I looked at the Readme file for NI-SERIAL 15.0...

Joe,

That's quite the contradiction.  I've been using the compatiblity list as I prepare to migrate some applications to Win10.  So far all my testing indicates that it works ok.

Can you use your inside contacts to figure out which is correct?

Thanks.

Joe,

Take a look at the Section labled 'Software' on page 2 of the compatibility doc.  It seems to explain the confusion.

That is quite the contradiction!  Thank you for the research, Wayne.

In this situation, an easy troubleshooting step is to simple repair install NI-SERIAL 15.0.  You can do this by simply:

1)  Navigate to Add or Remove Programs

2) Double Click National Instrumente Software

3) Select NI-Serial 15.0 and click "repair".

Let me know if this helps.
