USB-8473, USB-9201, USB-GPIB constant hardware resource conflict

I have the three NI devices mentiond above. They seem to have constant hardware conflicts. If I open MAX & run self tests of the devices, I usually find that 1/3 fails the self test. Unplugging that device, and plugging it back in will fix that device, but make one of the other three fail (like whack-a-mole). A system reboot usually fixes the problem, but not always. I have seen the issue on multiple computers.

How can I keep this from happening?

Hi DinoS,

How are these USB devices connected to your machine? Are they connected on the same USB Controller? Are there some cases on other machines where all 3 work fine?

Thank you!

Yes, they are on the same USB controller. I haven't seen a case where all three work fine. It seems like the conflict is really between the 8437 and 9201.

The order of events is usually something like this:

* Will be using the GUI, all three components working fine.

* Stop the GUI, come back to it at a later time

* Start the GUI, the 8473 will not be working.

* Open MAX, 8473 fails self test.

* Unplug 8473, plug back in. 8473 passes self test

* 9201 fails self test

* Restart computer, all devices work

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dino

I just went through the same issues. Get yourself a good externally powered USB controller that you know provides 500ma per port. As soon as I replaced the one from the dicount electronics store, my problems went away.
