Hello,
We have developed some hardware in my lab to control several high voltage power supplies using an ATmega328P-PU microcroller and an FTDI FT232 UART IC for communication to the computer using the VCP driver. Occasionally we encounter arcing between some of the electrodes in close proximity to the system. By electrically isolating the system from the electrodes we have determined that the problem is due to EMI from the arcs.
When the arcs occur the hardware stops feeding back, though no error is tripped using the VISA drivers. We can alleviate the problem by unplugging and replugging the USB cable (most of the time) and other times a restart of LabVIEW is required. I have read several threads about using the MS tool devcon to attempt to restart the USB connection but with little success. Are there any alternatives to resetting the communication between the computer and a device aside from devcon? Has anyone else had any experience with EMI, the FT232 UART IC and LabVIEW? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric
