Unable to recognize Lake Shore 218's (Difference between NI-488.2 software for $65 and NI-488.2 driver download)

After installing the Lake Shore curve handler software, no GPIB devices were able to be recognized by NI MAX software.  The GPIB PCI card is considered functioning properly by the hardware manager.

I believe I'm having trouble with my NI-488.2 (1.7) and before I remove it and install NI-488.2 (2.5) which I downloaded from NI Home > Support > Drivers and Updates, I want to make sure that it will indeed replace the older version.  When I install the new software, the installer sends an error that a previous version of legacy NI-488.2 is installed and thus cannot continue.  I noticed that the NI website has an NI-488.2 that you pay $65 for (NI Home > Products & Services > GPIB, Serial, and Instrument Control > GPIB (IEEE 488) Solutions > Software > NI-488.2).  I'm not sure what the difference between the paid version and the downloaded version is.

The main issue is that no gpib devices are being recognized by national instruments software, but my secondary question may shed some light.

thanks

Hey Jon,

The first thing I would recommend is you have the compatible drive which you can find at this page.

Second, with your current card, I'd make sure that you have NI-VISA installed as-well. You can find the driver at: https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-visa.html

Third, I'd recommend you go into Device Manager, and verify that Windows is able to detect your Card. Before MAX can detect your card, Device Manager needs to be able to detect your card.

Regards,

Nick D.
