Using NI OPC server with other hardware

Hi,

I am using the National Instruments OPC sever with Compact Filedpoint devices but I need to add other hardware to the network. Does the NI OPC server support other vendor's hardware if I have the GSD files?

If so, how do I configure it?

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,

The NI OPC server does not support GSD files natively, however if your device is compatible with our OPC setup then you should not need the GSD file. Please can you tell me what device(s) you are trying to add to your network.

Hi,

Thanks very much for the reply.

The other devices we plan to use on our network are Wago bus couplers model 750-841.

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,

The NI OPC Server CD, has support for the WAGO 750-342 Buscoupler for Ethernet TCP/IP, or the 750-842 Programmable Fieldbus Controller (PFC) for Ethernet TCP/IP, I know you have the 750-841 device, so I am going to escalate this issue to try and find a suitable answer for you.

Thanks for this. We may be able to change out our Wago bus couplers for the 750-842's if push came to shove.

Can you tell me what I would need to do to configure the NI OPC server to add the Wago I/O items to the server?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,

You would need the LabVIEW DSC module, to create an IO Server (OPC client) in the LabVIEW project, from the IO server you would then create shared variables and bind them to OPC tags exposed by the NI OPC Servers CD.

From there you would just drag and drop the Shared Variables onto the block diagram of you VIs.

Hope this helps you
