VISA libraries required for comms with serial device via RS232-ENET?

I have some third party software that controls a particular device via a direct serial connection.  Can I simply install a RS232/4 ethernet converter, install the NI software/drivers on my windows 2000 box, and have the third party software use the serial ports via ENET?  Or would I have to modify my third party software to use the VISA libraries?

While I would suggest testing it with a loopback test before relying on it, if your third party software supports the NI-Serial driver for the ENET box, then it should work just fine.
