communicating using a USB to serial cable

I am new with labveiw and I need to interface with a Network Analyser. But my laptop does not have a serial port. I was thinking about using a USB to serial connecting cable for this purpose.

Do you think i would still be able to retrieve readings through it?

Hi

A good usb to serial converter should look and act as if it was a built in com port.

Amy_21,

I use USB to RS232 and RS485 serial converters every day.  I have had very good luck with converters from National Instruments, B&B Electronics and Black Box.

I use an Amplicon USB converter as it will use the next avaiable comport and not a silly comport number like most addapters do.

NI Serial Card (not usb converters) are inconsistant and somtimes give you a reversed order of high number comports. (8 port card)
