connecting Rs-232 adn Rs-422 to a PC

I was wondering if it was possible to connect a RS-232 and a RS-422 to a Pc together without converting the RS422 to a rs232 and process the data versus one another? If so, can the dataa also be displayed in labview?

RS-232 and RS-422 are different physical layers. The state of each RS-232 signal is determined by a voltage level of a single line to ground. However RS-422 (and RS-485) signal states are determined by a differential pair of voltages for each signal. Thus the two physical layers are incompatible.

After re-reading your question, it seems that you may be asking if it possible to have BOTH a RS-232 port and a RS-422 port on the computer at the same time. It is possible if you install additional hardware for the RS-422 port. For example, NI-Serial RS-485 interfaces can give you 2-8 RS-422/485 serial ports in addition the whatever on-board RS-232 ports came with your computer.

Yes you can display in LV.
Chris is correct re:physical differences. B&B makes converters for 232 to 422. So does Black Box.

Ni makes nice interface boards and also has ethernet variations.

Yes to all of your questions.

Please re-post if you have more questions.
