Did you mean:

does pcie really ehance the bandwidth of GPIB?

Hi all,

I am reading some materials about PCI and PCIexpress. I wonder how much it helps for data transfer if I use PCIexpress GPIB card instead of PCI GPIB. What I am thinking is if GPIB using 488.1/2 standard, is the bandwidth fixed so PCI or PCIexpress doesn't really affect much? I have a PCI GPIB card but I also have a PCI express slots in the mohter board. I find that there is some product like PCI-PCIexpress adapter so we can use PCI GPIB card in PCIexpress slot, anyone has experience to use PCI card in this way to compare how much effiency obtained?

You will still be limited by the 488.2 standard bandwidth.  Just choose PCI vs PCIe based on what slots you have available in your computer.

The bandwith will be the same for both types of cards.  If you're just buying one time, choose whichever one matches slots available.  If you're looking for future proof, you might choose PCIe in case you come across a host machine in the future that has done away with PCI slots.
