The drivers are not loading when I connect my National Instruments GPIB-USB p/n 184983C-01 (this is not an 'A' or 'B' or 'HS') to my laptop. I am using NI-488.2 version 1.7 and Windows XP SP3. After searching this board and the knowledge base, I suspect that I have the wrong drivers or that the correct drivers don't exist for Windows XP.
Any suggestions?

NI-488 1.7 is very old. Get a more recent version from here: http://www.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/tech/lang/en/pg/1/sn/catnav:du,n8:3.25.123.785,ssnav...
I do not know what that part number translates to, as the compatibility information is based on model numbers, not part numbers. What is the model number? Is it just "GPIB-USB"? If that's the case, I think that product was obsoleted a long time ago. Probably at the same time that NI-488.2 1.7 was obsoleted.

Thanks for your response. Yes, both are old NI products. The model is GPIB-USB, its color is black and the USB cable is an A/B cable similar to the cable used for a lot of printers and detaches from the GPIB-USB enclosure.

Well, I can tell you that NI-488 1.7 does not support XP. And versions that support XP don't support that old GPIB controller. So, it appears you need to buy a newer product. Your other option is to use a computer that has an older OS. My guess is that you'd need Windows 98.
