hokuyo utm-30lx laser

Hi, I've purchased the Hokuyo UTM-30LX Laser and downloaded the LabVIEW Driver but I'm having a problem communicating with the laser.  Is there a common "trick" to getting the communication established between the instrument and LabVIEW that I might just be missing?

Thanks!

Define 'problem'. You have not provided much information. Do you get an error? If so, what is the error code? What type of connection do you have to the instrument?

Hello Rach,

According to the instrument driver download page, you need to download an additional driver:

With the driver sucessfully installed, I believe that the Lidar will show up as a virtual COM port (COM2, COM3, etc), and that is what you will use for the VISA reference.

Cheers,

Any idea how to install the driver?  I only have a notepad file and I'm not exactly sure what to do with it/how to use it.

A USB driver would be provided by the vendor and is an inf file. When you plugged in the USB cable, did windows try to install a driver and were you prompted for one? If the driver is supposed to make the connection appear as a com port, you would have this new port listed in the windows device manager and it would also be listed in MAX as a com port.

thanks, I got it to work.  One of my USB connections is faulty and does not work.  Using a different USB port the driver installed immediately.  Thanks.
