hp4156a data query

I defined a variable (vtid) in HP4156A, later VISA write DATA? 'vtid'. However, the VISA Read always returns 0. From the instrument, that variable has the right data. Can any experts show me an example how to read the data from HP4156A? Would be very grateful -- this is almost the last step of my program.

Which programming enviroment are you using?  There are certified LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI instrument drivers for this model on NI's Instrument Driver Network (ni.com/idnet).  Just seach for 4156 and you can install and look at the source code that the driver employs to control the instrument.
