Hi,
My question is per se not related to NI.
I have a 3 dimensional sonic anemometer with a communication (PCI) unit. The PCI communicates with a laptop or desktop using the serial port. I have all the port settings correct, the sonic anemometer is functioning properly (when it is working properly I hear what is called a "confidence tone" and I do hear it). I am using a data acquisition software that searches for the instrument trying several baud rates and finally, at the matching baud rate, connects to the sonic and the data collection at 10 Hz commences.
I am using a Dell PC with Professional XP, 2 GB RAM (Processor - I do not remember now). This PC communicates with the sonic over the serial port. However, the DAQ software crashes randomly during the process of writing the data files. At the onset of DAQ, the program opens a file to wrote the data, keeps appending the 10 Hz data to the file for 30 mins, starts a new 30 min file. Ideally, when all is well, the system should be generating 30 min data files until I manually stop logging or stoppage due to power failure. What is causing this DAQ crash? I would appreciate all your hints/suggestions/comments.
To sort the problem out, I brought the sonic and all associated accessories to my lab and tried to log data using 5 different laptops (of varying kind) with XP and my own desktop. Now the problem is that during my lab exercises, none of the computers could establish a serial com with the instrument. This is even more puzzling.
Any help? Thanks to you all in advance for your time.
