I have been away from Labview for awhile. The version I have installed is 6i. A few years ago I used it to write a large instrument control project that has worked flawlessly since then. We recently decided to add a temperature controller (Lakeshore 330) to it and a colleague who has taken over the project ordered Labview 8. To our amazement we found that the 6i code could not even be opened. I did expect some backward compatibility issues but not that. A call to NI seems to tell us that we have to scrap ALL our legacy code and start all over !?! This is just out of the question and makes me wonder if we got the correct information. Am I missing something? I assume that there must be a lot of organizations who have found them selves in this situation. If I have to invest capital in redoing the project I would hesitate to use a product that may change again at an unforeseen date. Right now the quickest fix for us would be if we could just get our hands on a 6i compatible driver for the Lakeshore 330. Looking forward to hearing comments.

If you really have 6.0 and 8.0, the 6.0 VI can be opened just fine by it. In fact, 6.0 can be opened by any newer version.
If you really have something older (like 5.0) then you would need an intermediate version to open and save it. Numerous posts have been made on this subject and many users have posted their very old VIs and had them converted. Why don't you attach one of your old VIs so someone can see what is really going on?
p.s. If someone recently bought LabVIEW, it is unlikely that it was version 8.0 like you said. More likely it would have been 8.6. It was with 8.5 that support for 5.0 was dropped.
