problems with niSerial, ni488.2 and NI MAX

When I installed niRFSG, NI-MAX "lost" everything out of "Devices and Interfaces". Now, I'm just trying to get the machine back to the original state.

Here is the last procedure I followed

1) Uninstall EVERYTHING NI using msiBlast
2) reinstall LV 7.0
3) reinstall ni 488.2 v 2.4
-> NI MAX "sees" the GPIB card and instruments in "Devices and Interfaces"
4) reinstall niVISA 3.1
-> NI MAX "sees" GPIB card, instruments and the Serial ports on the PC motherboard
5) reinstall niSerial v1.6 to drive PCI-232/4 card
-> everything in NI MAX "Devices and Interfaces" is gone
-> all of the devices are still present in PC Device Manager.

Now I have uninstalled NI MAX using the windows uninstaller. This also removes 488.2 and niSerial. I have also physically removed all of the PCI cards. I will install the drivers, power down, install the PCI card and reboot. Along the way I will monitor NI MAX to see if the problem shows up again.

Have you tried NI-Serial 1.8? I don't know what the differences are, but 1.6 is pretty old.

Hi, anyone knows how to remove NI-488.2 from different packages: Version 2.7.2 for DOS and Windows (for the AT-GPIB/TNT HW)? That "MSIBlast" sw does not show anything like that.

I have used Windows 98, and it used to be okay with a newer version V1.6 on CD. Now I have had all the problem, after attempting to uninstall them for a clean install. Especially the DOS/WIN3 edition.  Thx.

Hi ss06,
Have you tried uninstalling it from the "Add/Remove Programs" menu in the Control Panel?  It should be listed here and you should be able to uninstall it.  Simply deleting the folder within program files can cause problems, so it is recommended that you do an uninstallation via the Control Panel in Windows.  Are you seeing this trouble on multiple machines and operating systems?  You mentioned Windows 98, Dos, and Windows 3.x.  Let me know a little more about the problem and I will look into it for you.

Have a great day!
