Hi there,
I'm a bit of a programming/hardware numpty so please bare with me. I have tried to set up 2 USB to RS232 and RS485 converters (1 of each) for communication through labview and so far have been reduced to trying to achieve a successful loopback test (even this is failing) using the Basic Serial Read and Write VI in the labview examples.
The 2 converters seem to have installed correctly showing as COM ports on the device manager (Win7). With the RS232 converter, I connected the read and transmit pins as per the NI help article on loopback testing. This did work for a while but has since stopped, is this failure of the device??
The RS485 converter has never worked I have connected both pairs of Transmit/read pins to each other (e.g Rx- to Tx- and Rx+ to Tx+) the light on the convertor flashes showing a signal is being sent but there is now corresponding flash on the read and no string is produced in the labview program.
I don't know where to go next with this and so I am open to suggestions!
Thanks,
Steve

Hi stedale,
The link below may help you with a feedback loop test.
Let me know if this helps.
Best of luck

Hi Steve,
What failure message do you get ? Or just a time-out.
Can you tell me how you did wire the connectors (with pinnumbers)
