Your question is silly. You have not specified the vendor, the model number of the instrument, or even your programming language.

One thing you will learn as you advance in school is how to properly state a problem. I understand that is early in the year for freshman students but you have quite a bit to learn.

Could you please be more specific with your question? What instrument are you trying to communicate with? I assume that you are trying to use LabVIEW. You can start by looking the drivers of your instrument in the IDNet site http://www.ni.com/downloads/instrument-drivers/esa/
